A guardrail is one of those things that you either never notice or don't really appreciate its existence until it saves your life.
And that it did when the owner of a Kawasaki ZX10R seemingly locked his front brake (we could be wrong, but that looks to be the culprit from the video) while taking a soft corner on Mulhollland Highway near Malibu California and ended up on the ground sliding dangerously towards the canyon.
For this year’s Tokyo Motor Show, Daihatsu brought along an innovative new concept for a multi-purposes kei car series called the D-X ("d-cross").While the car shown at the Japanese brand's booth is a two-seater roadster, Daihatsu says that its can be easily modified into different types of models by replacing or adding components on its resin-based body.
Among other body styles, the D-X can be transformed into a shooting-break-like hatchback with a hard top, a two-door crossover and a lightweight weekend-racer.
As you can see in the pictures, Daihatsu's roadster model is extremely compact measuring just 3,395mm in length, 1,475mm in width and 1,275mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,230mm.
Power for the D-X comes courtesy of Daihatsu's 0.66-liter two-cylinder engine with direct-injection and turbocharging technology, with the Japanese automaker saying that it "strikes a balance between the joy of driving and fuel-efficiency."
We completely understand that in certain life-threatening situations, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and other emergency vehicles should have the priority on the road - even if that means breaking some laws, as long as they don't endanger the lives of other drivers.
But seriously now, tow trucks violating every single law in the traffic book just to be the first to reach a client at an accident scene is a something out of reason.
In the following video that was shot from a dashboard mounted camera placed in one of at least three tow trucks that were racing against each other on public roads in South Korea, we see the driver passing countless red lights and entering the opposite side of the road with no consideration whatsoever for the rest of the cars.
It's truly amazing that he didn't cause several more accidents during his "Need for Speed" rush…
With all the news coming out for The Dark Knight Rises, it's very easy to forget all the other films that Christian Bale is currently working on. Today we have a movie poster for one of his upcoming films called "Concrete Island".
Los Angeles, 2020.Robert Maitland is a highly successful architect. One day, he speeds down the freeway losing control of his car and crashing into the middle of a manmade ‘island’ underneath a freeway intersection. After days of suffering agonising physical pain and the mental turmoil, he begins to suspect that he may not be the only person on the ‘island’. When his fellow inhabitants finally reveal themselves, it soon becomes clear to Maitland that on this ‘concrete island’, only the strong survive.
Comingsoon.net/SuperHeroHype had a chance to visit Takashi Shimizu's thriller 7500. While there they talked to Leslie Bibb about appearing in "Movie 43". The film is made up of short comedy segments.
This is what she had to say:
The Farrelly brothers did this compilation of these shorts and there's a whole slew of us. Hugh Jackman did one, Gerard Butler, Kate Winslet, Mine is me, Jason Sudeikis and Justin Long and Bobby Cannavale and John Hodgman is the Penguin. And Bobby Cannavale is a jacked up Superman who smokes and we all are these f**ked up superheroes. Like, I’m sleeping with Batman. He won’t call me back. I’m kind of crazy. Kristen Bell is Supergirl and Uma Thurman is Lois Lane or something. And we’re all just dysfunctional superheroes, like superheroes who can’t get a date. We’re all at this speed dating.
I’m Wonder Woman and I have on this amazing wig and the whole getup, which was pretty fantastic. And I’m crazier than bat sh*t. Like, she is really crazy, and so it was really fun because I know Jason [Batman] and he won’t call me back and I love him and he just doesn’t care about me. And so it proved to be a good time. The Farrelly brothers directed one short and they were the main producers on it.
Disney has released a new poster for John Carter. Based on the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the film is directed by Andrew Stanton.
The synopsis:
From Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes “John Carter”–a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). “John Carter” is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands
Behind the cute exterior face of the Berg Little Printer, there lies a conscience that cares not for mother earth, couldn't give a monkeys about the monkeys and has been covering its ears and making loud noises whenever anyone dares to talk about sustainability.
For, in an age where we're encouraged to go green and to avoid printing anything unless absolutely necessary, Berg wants to make printing cool and fun. At least it's on a miniature scale we suppose.
The Berg Little printer connects up to the cloud and allows you, via an app (we're not sure if this is a web app or a native one at present), to select a load of content that you want printed on receipt like sized paper. Stuff such as puzzles, messages, horoscopes, pictures and lists, as well as content from launch partners Arup, Foursquare, Google, the Guardian, and Nike. And when it's finished printing, the cute little face re-appears.
You can also send things to your pals' Berg Little Printers. Printing starts when you push the little button on the top.
Berg is a design studio based in London and is the brain behind the invisible ink SVK comic.
The Little Printer is just the tip of the Berg though, there are plans afoot for more Berg Cloud devices to follow.
"It’s the beginning of the journey, and I hope you’ll be with us the whole way," said Berg's Matt Webb. "We’ll be sharing stories as Little Printer makes its way through manufacture and assembly, packaging and warehousing, new content development and new features, and all the way to beta product and beyond."
It's out next year. You can register your interest now.
Fox has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming TV Project from J.J. Abrams, "Alcatraz". The show seems to have a really cool concept. Here is the shows synopsis:
When San Francisco Police Department DET. REBECCA MADSEN (Sarah Jones, “Sons of Anarchy”) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a shocking suspect: JACK SYLVANE (guest star Jeffrey Pierce, “The Nine”), a former Alcatraz inmate who died decades ago. Given her family history – both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, RAY ARCHER (Robert Forster, “Jackie Brown”), were guards at the prison – Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent EMERSON HAUSER (Sam Neill, “Jurassic Park”) tries to impede her investigation, she’s doggedly committed. Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast, DR. DIEGO “DOC” SOTO (Jorge Garcia, “Lost”), to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. The twosome discovers that Sylvane is not only alive, but he’s loose on the streets of San Francisco, leaving bodies in his wake. And strangely, he hasn’t aged a day since he was in Alcatraz, when the prison was ruled by the iron-fisted WARDEN EDWIN JAMES (Jonny Coyne, “Undercovers”) and the merciless ASSOCIATE WARDEN E.B. TILLER (Jason Butler Harner, “The Changeling”). Madsen and Soto reluctantly team with Agent Hauser and his technician, LUCY BANERJEE (Parminder Nagra, “ER”), to stop Sylvane’s vengeful killing spree.
Ai To Makoto! Japanese genre legend director Takashi Miike is still on a roll, churning out film after film after film these days. Up next for him is Ai To Makoto, or The Legend of Love & Sincerity, apparently some adaptation of a manga that looks very... colorful. Twitch posted the first teaser trailer and while it's short, and features just a few quick glimpses of footage, it's considerably interesting, to say the least. Is this a musical? I'm not even sure, but apparently it's a love between two high school students. One, the troubled Makoto Taiga, is played by Satoshi Tsumabuki; and the pure, sweet Ai Satome is played by Emi Takei.
Watch the teaser for Takashi Miike's Ai To Makoto or The Legend of Love & Sincerity, via Twitch:
Ai To Makoto is a Japanese manga series written by Ikki Kajiwara and illustrated by Takumi Nagayasu. It was adapted into a live-action television series in 1974 and into three live-action films in the 70s. Directing this adaptation, which I believe is also known as The Legend of Love & Sincerity, is legendary Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike, of everything from Audition to Ichi the Killer to Dead or Alive to One Missed Call to Sukiyaki Western Django to Yatterman to 13 Assassins to Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai and Ninja Kids!!! most recently. We don't expect to see this in the US for quite some time, as it's barely hitting theaters in Japan until June 2012. We'll keep you updated, as it just looks too damn interesting anyway. Thoughts?
Though the actor will be taking his musical talents to the big screen for the first time early next year with Tom Hooper's new adaptation of Les Miserables, it's been reported that Hugh Jackman would start work on the gestating sequel The Wolverine with director James Mangold shortly thereafter still in early 2012. However, it sounds like that after the delay caused by Darren Aronofsky's departure from the project, the film may yet again be on hold until later next year. Moviehole has word from one of their inside industry sources that some issue in Japan (though it's not clear what) may cause delay in starting production.
Their source says talks to get the film off the ground will resume next year, so that makes it very unlikely that the film will meet its early 2012 projected start date. Though interest may have waned some since Aronofsky left the film, word on the street is that the script for this X-Men Origins sequel is quite good, and much better than the first film. To attract a name like Aronofsky initially, it would have to be on the higher end of quality, at least for a comic book film, so that's not surprising, but these delays are certainly frustrating as fans are eager to see Wolverine's backstory play out on the big screen again. Stay tuned.
The third and final film of Michael Bay's Transformers trilogy called "Dark of the Moon" came out this summer receiving fairly mixed by mostly negative reviews from critics and cinema-goers alike. And while the series will most likely be put to rest for at least for another decade or so, some fans continue to be inspired by the movie creating their own short films.
After last year's awesome fan-made clip from the then 21-year old Alexander Vladimirovich Semenov from Russia, we will soon have another new short film that is currently being prepared by 19-year old Robert Kouba from Switzerland.
Robert sent us a teaser trailer of his film that called "Transformers: The Last Energon Crystal". Here's what the aspiring young producer told Carscoop:
"My name is Robert Kouba and I'm a Swiss filmmaker. I am currently working on a fan made Transformers short film called: "Transformers: The Last Energon Crystal". It was a lot of work (you can check out some behind the scenes here: http://thelastenergoncrystal.tumblr.com/ ). The final short film will be up soon."
Well Robert, we wish you the best of luck and hope we can see the final edition soon. You can check out the trailer in the video below
Less than eight months after the purchase of Caterham Cars by Team Lotus, the company’s chairman, Tony Fernandes, confirmed the creation of a new group with four divisions that will all bear the Caterham name. Fittingly, the announcement was made at this past weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix
"We have been talking for some time now about our plans for Caterham in all its guises, from the road car company to Formula 1 and GP2, and in the technology, design and innovation fields”, said Fernandes.
“Now, with the announcement about the rebranding in Formula One to Caterham F1 Team for 2012 and beyond, we are in a position to give a much more in-depth explanation of how the Caterham Group is taking shape”, he added.
The new group’s four divisions are Caterham Cars, Caterham F1 Team, Caterham Technology and Innovation (CTI) and Caterham Composites, all of which will headed by Caterham Group CEO, Riad Asmat.
Caterham Cars is currently expanding into new markets, by assembling the Seven in India, introducing it to China and preparing the SP/300.R sports prototype for its 2012 launch. At the same time, it is getting ready for a new product range, with the first all-new road car to bear the Caterham logo being scheduled for 2014.
The newly named Caterham F1 Team, which includes Caterham Racing as the new moniker for the Group's GP2 team, will not be restricted to its Formula 1 and GP2 program. Under the guidance of its Chief Technical Officer, Mike Gascoyne, it will be actively involved in many forms of motorsports, from the more than 700 Caterham Seven racers around the world, to GP3, the World Series by Renault as well as karting.
CTI, which was formed in September, will be responsible for the development of a new range of affordable sports cars that promise to remain true to the Seven’s character.
The newly launched Caterham Composites will have Mike Gascoyne as its CEO and will undertake projects for other companies. According to Fernanandes, it is already involved in aerospace, nautical, motorsport and automotive projects.
"With those four arms in place, and more to be announced in due course, we have a dynamic group of businesses already working together that gives a clear vision of what our long-term strategy is in their respective fields, and as one entity under Caterham Group”, said Fernandes.
