Russell Brand to Produce & Star in 'The President Stole My Girlfriend'

Russell Brand
Though Ben Stiller has taken over the big screen adaptation of the British children's series Rentaghost, comedian Russell Brand is still very busy. Not only will he lead the directorial debut of Juno writer Diablo Cody alongside Julianne Hough (they can both be seen next year in the musical Rock of Ages), but now he has another comedy in which he will star and also produce over at Warner Bros. The President Stole My Girlfriend marks the first major sale for writer Matt Portenoy who scripted the original story which follow a sexy hippie (Brand) who has his lover taken away from him by the President of the United States. Read on!
THR reports Brand is producing through his Branded Films banner which is based at Warner Bros, and the actor jests, "It was inspired by the night I naively invited [Warner Bros. president] Jeff Robinov for dinner." It's doubtful that Robinov was able to steal the lovely Katy Perry away from Mr. Brand unless he gave her one hell of a first look deal (and though it sounds like sexual innuendo, I mean that in the most literal, film business sense). Ironically enough, it's interesting that Brand will have a girlfriend stolen from him since he made waves in the states stealing one from Jason Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall Though it didn't perform as well at the box office as Brand hoped, the comedian's turn in the remake of Arthur was a charming one, and another comedy can only benefit from his talents.
