Lamborghini RWD Gallardo Spyder LP 550-2

When Lamborghini unveiled the Super Trofeo Stradale at the 64th IAA in Frankfurt, we thought that this limited production version (only 150 pieces) would be the Italian company’s farewell to its smallest supercar before its replacement arrives sometime next year.

But if a report from Teamspeed proves accurate, the Italian supercar manufacturer may have one more special edition of the Gallardo up its sleeve. This time, it’s a rear-wheel drive version of the open-top Gallardo Spyder named the LP550-2.
In Lamborghini-talk, the LP550-2 moniker stands for a 550HP engine transferring power only to the rear wheels, instead of the normal Spyder’s AWD set-up. And the denomination hints that the new Gallardo will be, effectively, a roadster version of the Valentino Balboni LP 550-2 coupe – minus the company’s former chief tester’s name.
Even though the Gallardo competes with Porsche's 911 when it comes the sheer number of special edition models introduced throughout its lifespan, an oversteer-friendly version that allows you to hear the V10 sound even better than the fixed-top LP 550-2, is more than welcome.
